Kid gloves for a relaunch

Abstract goal: to fill the Human Resources management position which had remained vacant for eighteen months after the radical restructuring.

Project: to search for a well-regarded and experienced professional to design and implement new policies and processes with the aim of speeding up the cultural transition to a high performance company.

Outcome: the position successfully filled.

The economic crisis has affected many companies. This multinational, one of the leaders in the hotel services industry, had to trim non-profitable units in order to focus on growth.

After a two year long struggle, the multinational named a new regional director to oversee the business in Italy, Portugal and Spain. One of the first decisions of the new executive was to fill the position of Director of Human resources in Italy. For 18 months, at precisely the toughest time for the company, it had been filled in by the Financial Manager.

A shrewd negotiator

The new professional faces a big challenge – taking control of the Human Resources policy with a 5,000 strong staff. Although the adjustment is in its final stages, his mission is to support the relaunch of the company while he draws up a talent map for the future. This covers training schemes, staff assessments, critical positions and workforce strategy.

Besides having a technical background, the position requires high negotiation skills to maintain ongoing dialogue with the trade unions which, in Italy, have a huge influence and unusually tough negotiators. This aspect is especially relevant due to the currently tarnished image of the company. Factoring that in, the new executive must be a professional with a strong personal brand.

The search was complex but efficient, and the work of the chosen candidate is starting to bear fruit in the company.
